CHARACTER SKETCH ON BLACK MICHAEL

Introduction of Black Michael Character Sketch

Black Michael is the main villain of the novel “The Prisoner of Zenda”, created by Anthony Hope. He is the half-brother of King Elfberg. Since he was born from the king’s second and non-royal marriage, he was not the legitimate heir to the throne. Black Michael owned the castle of Zenda and its surrounding fiefdom. Thanks to the special favor of the former king, he was appointed Duke of Strelitzia. He is a scheming and malicious person by nature.

Selfish and Hypocrite

Black Michael is a selfish man. His love for Princess Flavia is actually a pretext for his desire to obtain the throne. He is hypocritical and expresses false love for Madame Moban. Due to his hypocrisy and duplicity, he gains popularity among some people in the country. His nature is characterized by excessive greed and unusual desires.

A Wicked Person

Black Michael is a sinful and evil man. He plots to gain the throne with the help of his companions, but always tries to deceive them. That is why at the decisive moment his companions leave him. He invites Risendall to the summer house as part of a conspiracy, but fortunately Risendall escapes. This cunning and wickedness of his reveals his evil nature..

A Cruel Man

Black Michael is truly a cruel and cruel man. When the king comes into his possession, he treats him very harshly and inhumanly. He does not even have mercy on his own brother. Black Michael is also a coward, he wants to save his own life at all costs and never comes forward to face the situation in difficult times.

A Cool-Minded Criminal

Blake Michael comes across as a wicked but very cool-headed and intelligent criminal. When he sees that Risendall has disguised himself as the king, he does not reveal this secret to the public in order to hide his evil intentions. Even Robart’s interest and love for Madame Mauban does not provoke him. All this proves that he is a criminal who knows how to control his emotions.

A Slave of Lust for Power

Blake Michael is blinded by his desire for power. He wants to wrest the kingdom from his brother at all costs. This intense lust for power distorts his personality and ultimately leads to his destruction

The Tragic End

Black Michael always betrays his close associates. As a result of this behavior, he is eventually killed by one of his own associates. Thus, this evil character of the novel reaches a tragic end.
